A room full of voters and 13 hopeful candidates for Cape Coral City Council met Monday. It was a forum to prepare voters for who they expect to see on the ballot in August.

Council seats for districts two, three, four, five and seven are up for grabs. Voters saw familiar and fresh faces take on some hot topics such as Jacey Park, the stipend and flooding.

We caught up with the real decision makers, the people, on what they want in their district’s seat.

“Transparency is important,” said Cape resident Tony Karp.

Another resident said, “You got to care about the people. That’s what it’s all about.”

Julia Ettri, a Cape Coral resident, said, “I think we need somebody that wants to listen to the people. I feel that District Four is up for reelection because it was an illegal mess, and so that extra seat gives us a two-year opportunity to fix the problems.

The deadline to register to vote for August’s election is July 22. For more election information, click here.
