A vehicle fire that ignited in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 just south of Colonial Boulevard caused havoc for afternoon commuters in Fort Myers.

The vehicle caught on fire at mile marker 135 for unknown reasons, Monday right before noon.

Once crews arrived, northbound traffic was left at a standstill until they put out the flames.

Traffic eventually opened in the furthest northbound lane. However, two lanes were closed as crews worked to clear the vehicle’s ruins from the scene.

The fire also caused onlooker delays in the southbound lanes.

By around 2 p.m., the scene had been cleared, and traffic resumed on all lanes of the highway.
