With great excitement from the Humane Society Naples, a dog who had spent over two years in the shelter has finally been adopted.

After the Southwest Florida community banded together after hearing the heartbreaking story about Yogi, he has now found his perfect match, giving him another chance to have a happy life.

“I think it was love at first sight. I don’t want to speak for anybody else. But it was clear that they connected,” said Sarah Baeckler, CEO of Humane Society Naples. “he’s very relaxed and happy and clearly very in love with his new person.

Yogi’s original owners had no choice but to surrender the animal because they were moving.

The Humane Society Naples posted on its Facebook account that Yogi had been adopted on Tuesday.

It thanked the local community for the virality of its original post, stating that the dog had been in the shelter for nearly 802 days.

The four-year-old animal had gone through several thoughtful interviews since the initial posting, where it was found that a family had won him over after respecting timid animals’ natural personalities.

“He is a really goofy, goofy boy, but he does take a couple of times to meet him until he’s feeling a little comfortable,” said Jonee Willette, satellite shelter manager at Human Society Naples.

HSN offers training and has behaviorists on staff to make any adoption that much smoother. They’re open Tuesday through Sunday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
