Lee County awarded $28.5 million to Sanibel disaster recovery

The Lee County Board of Commissioners awarded $28.5 million in grant funding to aid disaster recovery in Sanibel.

The grants were received by the City of Sanibel, with portions of the sum allocated to sub-recipients the FISH of SANCAP and the Sanibel Fire & Rescue District.

Funding has been distributed as follows:

  • City of Sanibel received $12.5 million for road reconstruction.
  • FISH of SANCAP received $6.9 million for the hardening and elevating of the Periwinkle Way building.
  • Sanibel Fire & Rescue District received $9.1 million for the reconstruction of Sanibel Fire Station 17.

The grants are part of the $229 million Community Disaster Block Grant – Disaster Relief funding Lee County received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development after Hurricane Ian.
