Closer look at rescue operations during Helene

Published: Updated:

All across Southwest Florida, we saw stories of bravery and selflessness during Helene.

In one scenario, the Coast Guard swooped in to save a man and his dog. Their boat stopped working off the coast of Sanibel, and the two were airlifted when the boat started taking on water.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was in action all over Fort Myers Beach, helping anyone in need.

Thursday night on Fort Myers beach, deputies braved the wrath of hurricane Helene’s wind, rain and surge, risking their lives to save others.

LCSO rescued people using jet skis, all-terrain vehicles and boats.

Now, Fort Myers Beach can begin to recover.
