DeSantis declares state of emergency in 35 Florida counties ahead of Milton

In an X post on Saturday evening, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in 35 Florida counties ahead of Milton.

The counties include all of Southwest Florida.

As of the 5 p.m. advisory, the National Hurricane Center is calling for a Category 3 Hurricane to make landfall on Wednesday somewhere along the Florida west coast.

DeSantis has directed the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the Florida Department of Transportation to coordinate all of their resources to help with local communities.

The following counties are under a state of emergency:

  • Flagler
  • Glades
  • Hardee
  • Hendry
  • Hernando
  • Highlands
  • Hillsborough
  • Indian River

  • Martin
  • Miami-Dade
  • Monroe
  • Okeechobee
  • Orange
  • Osceola
  • Palm Beach
  • Pasco
  • Pinellas
  • Polk
  • Putnam
  • Sarasota
  • Seminole
  • St. Johns
