It’s understandable to get anxious whenever we hear about the possibility of severe weather with Tropical Storm Rafael gaining strength in the Caribbean.

WINK News reporter Valentina LaFranca went to Naples to speak with people about how they’re taking the news of another potential hurricane.

People are taking it in stride; the community reportedly feels calm.

However, the Naples Fire Department chief told WINK they take any disturbance offshore seriously.

Phillip Pennington, the fire rescue chief for the City of Naples, said, “We’re monitoring the situation to see what potential impacts could come our way. Currently, we’re outside of the cone, but weather forecasts and things can happen, so we’re going to keep an eye on it … We’re prepared. We’re ready to go.”

For the next few days, the Weather Authority team will be tracking some rain, gusty winds, and a low threat of tornadoes, but Rafael will not be a major issue for Southwest Florida.
