CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Monday night, Cape Coral’s city council voted on allowing a domestic partnership registry. This is giving domestic partners some of the same benefits as legally married couples. It applies to things such as hospital visitation rights, and the ability to make medical and funeral decisions. This all started from petitioner Ken Shelin, former Sarasota city commissioner, now, with Equality Florida. The petition uses Sarasota’s domestic partnership registry as an example. Cape Coral is now the first city in Lee County to have a domestic partnership registry.
