CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A woman is under arrest for embezzlement following a months-long investigation.

38-year-old Amanda Kathleen Stilson is now facing charges of grand theft.

Police were called to Tropic Floors located on NE Pine Island Road on a grand theft complaint back in August.

The business owners contacted authorities after they found discrepancies in their books. The victims believed Stilson, a store employee, was writing and cashing fraudulent checks from the business account.

Stilson was terminated but the business owners offered her a grace period within which she could repay the money and the business would not pursue criminal charges.  During that time, authorities say Stilson continued cashing fraudulent business checks.

Over the next several weeks investigators gathered evidence of Stilson’s activities, including bank transaction records, copies of checks, and even photos of the suspect cashing or depositing fraudulent checks.

According to detectives, Stilson cased or deposited fraudulent checks on 25 different occasions, totaling $11,756.75.
