FGCU men and women begin conference title defense with doubleheader

Published: Updated:

Florida Gulf Coast hosts a basketball doubleheader on Saturday. The women play Stetson at 4:00 p.m. and the men’s game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m.

It will be the biggest home game of the season for the women as the Hatters are the Eagles biggest threat. FGCU (13-2) will be trying to extend its 56-game win streak in home conference games.

The Hatters (11-3) will be looking for redemption as the Eagles won their fourth-straight regular season title at Stetson last season and then beat them again in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship game.

“They still have those close games stuck in their head where we were able to sneak em out so I definitely think they’re going to have a chip on their shoulders” said FGCU junior guard, Whitney Knight.

The FGCU men went 10-6 in non-conference play and have lost four of their last five games but the Eagles will be looking to start defense of last years regular season championship against a 5-10 Stetson team.

A limited amount of general-admission tickets are still available and can be purchased in person at the Alico Arena Ticket Office, by calling 239-590-7145 or by logging on to FGCUAthletics.com/Tickets. All fans are encouraged to wear white to create a WHITEOUT atmosphere in The Nest.
