UPDATE: Sunset’s condition upgraded to fair

Published: Updated:

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- An update to a story so many of you care about. Sunset is now considered to be  in fair condition.

Her white blood cell count has improved but vets still want to get her protein levels up. They say she was much more alert and responsive on Friday and were feeling “positive” about her progress.

EARLIER:

A veterinarian tells WINK News Sunset, an abused pit bull found abandoned in Lehigh Acres, has developed a heart murmur.

She has a white blood cell count similar to an animal with cancer, but x-rays were positive for her heart, lungs and chest.

Sunset’s foster dad takes her home every night and brings her back in the morning for treatment.

Vets say Sunset is walking around and eating but her road to recovery is still a long one. She was allegedly used as a bait dog to train other dogs how to fight, and then left to die.

Many of you have been helping out financially with her recovery, and the Humane Society says it couldn’t do this without your help.
