MIAMI (AP) – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating after a Miami-Dade police bike patrol officer fatally shot a 22-year-old man during a confrontation.

The shooting occurred Wednesday night in northwest Miami-Dade County after three officers on bike patrol responded to a report of shots fired.

Police identified the dead man as Tevon Barkley. Investigators recovered an automatic firearm at the scene.

The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/1IlaOgP ) reports Barkley was arrested in December for refusing to leave the home of the mother of two of his children. Earlier last year, he was accused of punching his children’s mother in the face.

Police didn’t say what caused the latest altercation. No officers were injured. Miami-Dade police don’t wear body cameras and there is no dash cam video because the officers were on bikes.
