PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Brand new details into an investigation that had crime scene workers digging in a local home’s backyard and even going underwater in a nearby canal.

WINK News just learned police are waiting on lab results to make an arrest.

The home at the center of it all is on Boca Grande Boulevard.

A source with the Punta Gorda Police Department says evidence taken earlier this year is at a university crime lab. The lab is said to specialize in a field of forensics that’s considered by police to be highly technical.

The house has a dark history. A baby’s body was found in a freezer there in 2012. The baby was said to be stillborn and the mother and father were never charged.

WINK News cameras were there on New Year’s Day when investigators searched the home for clues. They also searched a car and dug up the yard.

Something police discovered during that search led investigators to dig in a canal a couple days later. We’re still working to find out what they found.

A source also tells WINK News, they never expected the investigation to take this long. A back-up at the crime lab has delayed the results.
