COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Kids in Florida are at a greater risk of drowning than any in the nation. Now, leaders in Collier County are trying to reverse this tragic trend.
NCH’s Safe and Healthy Children’s Coalition of Collier County is asking county leaders to offer a discount for Collier County residents at county parks.
The discount would be 20 percent off a first set of swim lessons for children under the age of five. One local pediatrician says the move could save countless lives.
”A lot of families that we see don’t have the means to afford swim or safety lessons,” said Dr. Todd Vedder. “So, every little bit helps.”
Collier County commissioners still have to approve the discount.
Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages one to four in Collier County and in the state.
