2 teens in custody after fatal shooting of store clerk

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say two teenagers are in custody following a high-speed chase that began with the fatal shooting of a St. Augustine convenience store clerk.

The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon and the teens were arrested about two hours later.

Authorities say the clerk at the Tobacco and Beverage Express was shot in the head and died at the scene. Witnesses told police the shooter got into a waiting SUV that sped from the scene. Authorities chased the vehicle through three counties.

Clay County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Mary Justino told the Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/1SbJsQB ) a deputy used a tactical maneuver to finally stop the vehicle. Two teens were arrested and taken to jail. The Jeep they were driving was confirmed stolen from another county.

The name of the victim hasn’t been released.
