New food program targets the elderly who are hungry

Published: Updated:

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Harry Chapin Food Bank and its partner agencies are promoting a new effort to get food to senior citizens in need.

The bank will deliver 30-pound boxes of food to those over 60, and living in poverty. The goal is to reach 2,400 elderly people in Lee and Collier Counties.

The food bank used Wednesday’s annual Hunger Summit to publicize the new program, which is supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The elderly must register for the boxes to be delivered. You can call the food bank at 239-334-7007, to register for a delivery of food once a month.
