COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Around 150 cyclists showed up for the Naples Ride of Silence; a 10-mile bike ride honoring those who have been killed while riding.

The ride led by Joe Bonness began in Cambier Park in downtown Naples.

Bonness spoke with WINK News before addressing the crowd. He says the ride for him is about more than just awareness and safety, it’s also personal.

“A sailor buddy of mine Jim Dock got killed in Labelle, run over by a boat trailer. So yeah, I’ve lost a few.”

Bonness spoke about many others he knew who have been killed while biking.

It’s the 10th year cyclists have pedaled throughout Naples to honor those and provide awareness about sharing the roadway. The cyclists wore black arm bands as a symbol for the event.
