WASHINGTON (AP) – The White House says climate change will be a top discussion item when President Barack Obama and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff meet at the White House.

Brazil’s first female president arrives Monday for a working dinner with Obama. Additional meetings and a joint White House news conference are scheduled for Tuesday.

The meeting comes six months before world leaders gather at a global climate conference in Paris in December in hopes of striking a deal to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that are blamed for global warming. Obama has argued that a warming planet could worsen social tensions and political instability worldwide, and harm the U.S.

The two leaders will also be striving to show they’ve smoothed things over following revelations of U.S. spying on Brazil.
