ORANGE CITY, Fla. (AP) – Wildlife officials are trying to trap a bear that attacked a man and killed his dog.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Greg Workman says Alan Bryant let his Yorkshire Terrier into the backyard of his home in Orange City on Monday night. When he heard the dog yelping, he went outside, triggering motion lights that illuminated the bear.

The man told investigators that he tried to run back inside but tripped. The bear then swiped at him, tearing his pants.

The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1j3u0ss ) reports Bryant was able to get inside his house just in time for his wife to close the door on the bear. The dog died at the scene.

Workman says the traps were set early Tuesday. If caught, the bear will be euthanized.
