1 injured in Fort Myers shooting

FORT MYERS, Fla.- One person was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital as a trauma alert following a shooting Monday morning near the intersection of Simpson Street and Glenn Drive.

Around 11:21 a.m., the Fort Myers Police Department (FMPD) found the victim laying near the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound.

Neighbors told WINK news, they heard shots fired and thought it was firecrackers.

“After he got shot, he was laying on the ground and I was in my backyard. I didn’t look that way. if I would’ve looked, I might’ve been shot maybe,”said neighbor William Beeler.

Police say a light brown, older four-door sedan was seen leaving the area heading westbound on Simpson Street and then northbound on Fowler Street.

“At this time, we are looking to identify that car who was occupied by what a witness described as black and Hispanic males,” said Lt. Victor Medico with FMPD.
