LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- A 2-year-old is in the hospital following a shooting on the 500 block of Alabama Road late Monday afternoon. Family says little Armiya Robinson is recovering after surgery.

The toddler was transported to Tampa Regional Hospital after family rushed her to Lehigh Regional Medical Center.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting appears to be accidental. Neighbors tell WINK News they heard shouting coming from the duplex around 5:30 p.m. and saw a man and a woman running out of the home holding something in a blanket.

“It’s horrifying, any little 2-year-old or kid getting shot or hurt. I just hope the little boy or girl is gonna be okay,” said neighbor Robin Sanchez.

Authorities are still investigating. They would not say whether or not they plan to file charges. The Department of Children and Families is also investigating.
