CAPE CORAL, Fla. – An 18-month-old boy has died after falling in his family’s swimming pool, a family friend tells WINK News. Cape Coral police say they responded to a drowning call at a home in the 1100 block of SE 31st Terrace around 3pm Thursday.

WINK News was there as emergency crews rushed the boy out of the home on a stretcher. A neighbor says he heard the terrifying incident as it unfolded.

“I was just sitting in my family room there and I heard a woman screaming and screaming ,” George Nink told WINK News Thursday. “She was just screaming. And I went outside and I looked around and I didn’t see nothin’. And then a few minutes later I heard sirens.”

“There was an officer who told me what was going on and he said it was a little 18-month-old boy fell in the pool,” said neighbor Doreen Tribou. “He said that they were working on him but he really couldn’t tell me what the condition of the little guy was.”

The Depertment of Children and Families confirms they are investigating, which is standard protocol when a child drowns in a family pool.
