Habitual offender sentenced to life in prison

FORT MYERS, Fla.- One of two Fort Myers men accused of holding up a Family Dollar store at gunpoint in SW Cape Coral has been sentenced to life in prison.

Jonas Griffin and Justin Diggs were arrested in June 2014 after robbing the store on Skyline Boulevard. The men were taken into custody near the Santa Barbara Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Parkway area after leading police on a chase and crashing their car.

Both were also charged with another June 2014 armed robbery at a Dollar General store on NE Pine Island Road.

In court on Monday, Griffin was sentenced for robbery, aggravated battery, and aggravated assault with a firearm and fleeding and eluding authorities.

On Oct. 12, Diggs was also sentenced to life in prison as a habitual violent felony offender.
