FORT MYERS, Fla.- Whole Foods Market has announced plans to open a new 45,000-square-foot location in Fort Myers.

The store is slated to open late 2017 and will be located at the intersection of Daniels Parkway and Six Mile Cypress Highway.

“We’ve received such a positive response from the west coast of Florida since the opening of the Whole Foods Market in Naples in 2008 so we are very excited to bring a new location to Fort Myers,” said Juan Nuñez, Regional President for Whole Foods Market Florida.

Residents say they’re excited for the arrival of the new store.

“I like the product that they sell,” said Graziano Buccini, “believe it or not, it’s a draw even for me.”

“It’s more jobs I imagine, more people can shop there and work there and more opportunities, more growth for the town,” said Amber Zimmer.

“I think it’s great, I think it will be good for the area as a whole, it will drive extra customers here,” manager of Glamour Paws, Kris Dietz said.

Sun Cup Golf Center is currently in the location where Whole Foods plans to be built. Sun Cup Golf Center says it’s not a done deal and they are still negotiating.

Whole Foods currently has 24 locations in Florida and more than 400 nationwide. Specific store details will be released closer to the opening, but the company says every store is designed and built to incorporate and represent the community it’s in.
