NAPLES, Fla. – Police are looking for a man caught on surveillance video stealing more than $1,000 worth of fishing equipment at the City Dock. It happened earlier this month but now the victim is hoping someone can identify the thief.

“They stole almost about $1,500 worth of equipment off the two boats,” said Captain Michael Avinon.

He tells WINK News, somebody stole fishing rods and a casting net from his boat in the middle of the night. Avinon said that same person also took a casting net from another boat.

“I’ve been here since 1992 and it’s probably been the third time I’ve seen it happen in that many years,” said Avinon. “It’s a very, very rare incident down at the City Dock.”

Police released two photos of the suspect caught on surveillance video. They describe him as having a full facial beard and tattoos on both arms.

“I don’t know exactly who it is but, it sounds like someone local who may be spending some time at the pier, fishing off the bridges” said Avinon.

He is now hoping someone recognizes the suspect and calls police.

“I’d just like to have my stuff back. If somebody knows who he is, you know, contact Naples PD and maybe we can get it all squared away.”

If you can identify the suspect, contact the Naples Police Department at 239-213-4822 or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 800-780-8477.
