PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- The death of a 12-week-old kitten is under investigation by the Charlotte County Animal Control.

“We got a call yesterday, we were informed that somebody had reportedly thrown a cat out of a window of a moving vehicle,” said Lt. Brian Jones with animal control.

Tami Cash of Port Charlotte says around noon on Tuesday, she was driving north on U.S. 41 over the Barron Collier Bridge when she saw a kitten drop out of a car that she says was traveling about 50 mph.

“It’s alarming just for the fact that somebody would choose that method of disposing of the cat,” said Jones, who adds that the situation happens more than you may think. “We actually over the years have worked some cases where animals have been ejected from vehicles or thrown from vehicles for whatever reasons.”

Cash was in tears while describing how she immediately pulled over to check on the kitten, but it was dead.

“A situation like this leaves you with more questions than answers,” said Jones.

Animal control says the kitten didn’t look to have been hit by any cars. The case is under investigation as authorities work to determine who killed the kitten and why.

“They are hard to prove because they happen seemingly out of nowhere, and they catch people off guard, and people don’t think to get license plate numbers or vehicle descriptions,” said Jones.
