Cape Coral denied federal disaster aid due to not meeting damage thresholds from EF2 tornado

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- The City of Cape Coral failed to meet the disaster thresholds necessary to qualify for federal aid following the EF2 tornado that swept through the southwest portion of the city January 9, city spokesperson Connie Barron said.

Despite not meeting the threshold, Cape Coral residents could still receive federal aid, Barron said.

“We will not know until they complete their reporting process at the federal level, which could be a couple of weeks,” said Barron. “If an (Small Business Administration) Disaster Declaration is given, and the governor accepts the declaration, homeowners, renters and businesses impacted could be eligible for low-interest loans to help them recover.”
