DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. – If you’ve ever wanted to fly a model airplane or just watch one cruise through the sky, now is your chance as the Charlotte Sport Modelers Society hosts a fun fly air show.

The airfield will be active Sunday February 7th, as pilots fly aircraft through the sky with gas and electric engine model planes just for fun and in competition. The event is free and open to all, whether you’re just there to watch, interested in the hobby or an experienced pilot.

The public is also invited to participate in the “Flying Oddity” contest where contestants will try to make anything other than an airplane fly, the most successful could walk away with $1,000. More than 20 aircraft will also take part in combat flying, where planes will attempt to knock each other out of the sky.

The Charlotte Sport Modelers Society airfield is located just off Kings Highway by the R.V. Griffin Park (5 miles east off I-75 exit 170) burgers, hot dogs and BBQ will also be served on site from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. For more information contact Dennis at 941-627-3474.
