Blaze rips through Collier County preserve

NAPLES, Fla. – Flames lit up a wooded area in Riverstone just feet from half-million dollar homes on Monday.

No homes were in danger, authorities said.

The fire was burning through a preserve but crews were able to contain the flames around 8 p.m., Caloosahatchee Forestry Center said.

Nearby residents watched as crews battled the blaze. They said the flames were tall, filling their community with smoke.

“It was scary I just saw 15 foot flames and really high and a lot of smoke everywhere,” a neighbor, Jaidan Knott said.
