Teens in custody following overnight Cape Coral shooting, robbery

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Two teens are in custody following an early morning robbery and shooting near the 1000 block of NW 9th Avenue, the Cape Coral Police Department said.

Matthias James Poteet, 16, and Jerimyah Paul Raski, 17, are facing charges for robbery with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and grand theft.

Around 1:30 a.m., police discovered a juvenile had been shot in the arm during a robbery that occurred less than a block away.

The victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, reported his cellphone, bicycle, and $100 was taken from him before he was shot.

“This was not a random incident. The suspects were known to the victim, and to police as well,” said Sgt. Dana Coston with CCPD.

The suspects were taken into custody at the nearby home of one of the suspects, according to authorities.

Detectives are currently conducting a search warrant at the home on the 1000 block of NW 10th Avenue.

Residents in the area can expect to see police activity for the next few hours.
