E8 remains in critical condition, continues recovery

SANIBEL, Fla. — Southwest Florida’s beloved eagle remained in critical condition on Wednesday but continues to recover, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) said.

X-rays revealed good pin placement in E8’s broken leg following surgery on Saturday, CROW said.

E8 was found with a fractured femur last week near the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam. The eagle will continue to receive pain medication, supportive care and remain on strict cage rest, CROW said.

The 3-month-old American bald eagle had gone missing May 7. Video from the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam showed the bird being pushed off a tree after being attacked by an owl.

The eagle was nursed back to health earlier this year after it was found tangled in a fishing line.
