Pedestrian hit by car in Golden Gate, hospitalized in serious condition

GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. — A Naples man is in serious condition at Lee Memorial Hospital after a car struck him while he was walking in the road Tuesday night, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Venry Jarrett, 63, was in the eastbound lane of Golden Gate Parkway near Second Street Southeast when a Ford Fusion driven by 27-year-old Naples resident Cory Denton struck him, according to FHP. Denton suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized, FHP said.

Jarrett was transported to the hospital via med-flight helicopter. No one is facing charges in the incident.
