MIAMI (AP) – The main criminal courthouse in downtown Miami was evacuated and temporarily closed because of a bomb threat, which proved unfounded.

Miami-Dade police say the threat Thursday involved claims from a caller that an unspecified number of pipe bombs had been placed at the courthouse, formally known as the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building.

Investigators later gave the all-clear signal on Twitter after the bomb squad found no explosive devices.

A Miami-Dade County courts spokeswoman said most trials and other proceedings that had been scheduled for Thursday morning were being reset. Some bond court proceedings were still scheduled to take place in the afternoon.
