ISIS-inspired message removed from church wall

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Under a fresh layer of paint, hateful messages about African-Americans, Latinos and law enforcement once marked the side of a church.

But the words sprawled on the building did not stop the faith community from gathering for an Independence Day cookout Monday.

“We’re not going to let that ruin our weekend and our faith at all. We’re strong and we’re not going to let that happen,” said longtime member Fransuas Hernandez.

Church members said the perpetrator claimed to have ties to ISIS.
