CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A woman made off with the wallet that the 85-year-old customer in front of her had left at the checkout counter of a grocery store, authorities say.

Surveillance cameras caught an image of the woman accused of slyly positioning her purse atop the wallet and placing it in her purse the morning of July 25 at the Publix on 17960 Del Prado Blvd. A food stamp card was in the wallet, along with cash, a Social Security card, personal identification, a check, a spare house key and other cards.

The 85-year-old woman realized her wallet was gone several minutes later as she tried to pay for a cab. She went back to the store to retrieve it but found out it had been taken.

Anyone with information on the identity of the alleged wallet thief is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).  All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.  Tips may also be made online at www.southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Keyword: REWARD.
