MINNEAPOLIS — The Twins have hired Indians assistant general manager Derek Falvey to head their baseball operations department, Minnesota announced Monday.

Falvey will take over as the club’s executive vice president and chief baseball officer as soon as Cleveland’s postseason run is over. He’ll replace interim interim general manager Rob Antony, who’s been in place since former GM Terry Ryan’s firing in July.

The 33-year-old Falvey, who began his tenure with the Indians in 2007 as an intern, will be just the sixth head of baseball operations for the franchise since it moved to Minnesota in 1961, excluding interims like Antony.

“It’s a tremendous honor to have the opportunity to lead the Twins baseball operation.  This is a proud, resilient franchise, and I’m eager to return championship-caliber baseball to the Twin Cities,” Falvey said in a statement issued by the team. “We will work diligently and collectively to select and develop top-performers, advance our processes, and nurture a progressive culture that will make fans across Twins Territory proud.”
