CAYO COSTA, Fla. — A sick and injured 300-pound sea turtle was taken to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife after it was spotted in the Gulf of Mexico about two and a half miles offshore from Cayo Costa.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were called to the scene said the turtle was missing a flipper, lethargic and barely moving.

Another sickly sea turtle came ashore last weekend on North Captiva, but officials at the Sanibel-based clinic said this week that it’s improved markedly under its care.
