BOISE, Idaho (CNN) — A K-9 officer has its fellow four-legged friends to thank as it continues to recover from wounds suffered during an officer-involved shooting.

Jardo received blood from two other dogs as four doctors worked to save its life. It’s unclear whether Jardo will return to duty after having lost a lung along with a significant amount of blood in the shooting.

But Dr. John Chandler, an animal surgeon at the clinic where Jardo was treated, doesn’t see why the dog wouldn’t be back on the job soon.

“He’s himself. He’s Jardo. He’s up and moving around.. which is pretty … remarkable, given his injuries … the extent of the injury,” Chandler said. “That he can get up and get going again as quickly as he can but he is … as we keep saying a tough, athletic dog … He’s doing great.”
