Florida outpaces US job growth, SWFL unemployment steady

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida is outpacing the country in job growth, nearly doubling the national job growth rate, according to numbers released Friday by Gov. Rick Scott.

The state’s annual growth rate is 3.3 percent. The average for the United States falls far below at 1.8 percent, Scott said in a statement.

The 2016 unemployment rate remains at 4.7 percent in Fort Myers and 5.2 percent in Naples — a slight drop for both cities compared to 2015.

Southwest Florida added 1,600 jobs in October for a total of 12,000 this year, Scott said.
