BREAKING NEWS LCSO: Lehigh Acres shooting investigation underway

Ex-Lee County funeral director convicted of grand theft

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A former Lee County funeral director was found guilty of grand theft Thursday for the May 2015 theft of $300 in jewelry from the body of a dead teenager.

Andrew Johnson, 51, was the last person to sign for delivery of a body at Mortuary Services of Florida, and the jewelry the girl was supposed to be buried with hasn’t been seen since, former co-workers and law enforcement testified.

The state attorney’s office said Johnson received the body from the medical examiner’s office. He’s accused of stealing gold and diamond earrings, as well as the piercings the girl was wearing.
