Jacksonville special needs team to compete in Washington

Published: Updated:

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A special needs cheerleading team is heading to Washington to compete in “The Battle at the Capitol,” a spotlight event for special needs teams, WTSP reported.

Team Shine consists of 21 athletes, eight buddies and two coaches.

“Buddies” are volunteer coaches who take the time to help the team perfect their routine.

Last year, the team placed third at the competition. This year, their goal is to win first place in order to compete in the national competition in Orlando.

Since Team Shine is a non-profit organization, they’re dependent on donations to fund their travel costs.
