FORT MYERS, Fla. The city is seeking help from a White House initiative to add affordable housing and become more pedestrian-friendly.

The city has applied for assistance from the National Resource Network, a program that helps cities develop growth plans through research.

Fort Myers plans to expand housing options near State Road 82 and Ortiz Avenue, where a developer has designs on building a 1,000-plus single-family community north of Eastwood Golf Course.
