PC: LCSO LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. A 31-year-old father was arrested after his children crashed his car into a canal on Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Martin Martinez Jr. had given permission to his 13-year-old son to drive his 1999 Toyota Camry. The boy was speeding when he crashed into a canal near Butte Street and Champion Avenue. Martinez’s 1-year-old son was also in the car at the time of the crash, officials said. Both children were released from Lee Memorial with minor injuries on Thursday, officials said. Martinez is in custody facing charges of child neglect with a $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in court May 8.
