BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. Crews continue placing the foundation as construction gets underway for Bonita Springs High School, the newest educational institution in Lee County.

The 76-acre campus initially broke ground in March on the corner of Imperial Parkway and Shangri-La Road.

The campus is expected to house nearly 2,000 students.

“I think it’s great that Bonita is opening a new high school it gives kids in the area to go to a new school and gives them a new opportunity,” nearby resident Kim Gettenburg said.

The high school will be the first in the city since it incorporated in 1999, according to Principal Jeff Estes Jr.

In addition, Estes explained it will also be the first in the county to have an Aerospace Academy, an U.S. Air force ROTC and a partnership with Florida Gulf Coast University as a Collegiate Academy.
