FORT MYERS, Fla. It wasn’t Southwest Florida’s most significant weather story Sunday, but it was still a record.

The temperature dipped to 68 degrees Sunday morning, several hours before Hurricane Irma made landfall on Marco Island at 3:35 p.m.

That’s the coolest it’s ever been on any Sept. 10 — including Sept. 10, 1960, when Hurricane Donna followed a path eerily similar to the one Irma took.

The low was 71 the day Donna hit.

Sunday’s low of 68 was also the coolest it’s been in Fort Myers since May 11, WINK meteorologist Brooke Silverang said.

It’s expected to be much warmer Monday morning, with the overnight low forecast to be 76.
