Sanibel reopens to residents

Published: Updated:

SANIBEL, Fla. Residents were allowed back on Sanibel Island at 3 p.m. Monday, the city manager’s office said.

But power, water and sewer service are not operational, and some residential neighborhoods remain blocked due to fallen vegetation, according to the city manager’s office.

The city manager’s office didn’t specify which neighborhoods are still inaccessible.

Residents are asked to turn off sprinkler systems until further notice in an effort to conserve water.

Earlier, the Sanibel Causeway passed Lee County Department of Transportation inspection, but residents weren’t immediately allowed back on the island when that took place.

A curfew for Sanibel and all of Lee County remains in effect from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly until further notice.
