Collier County schools propose hurricane makeup days

Published:

NAPLES, Fla. Collier County schools have a tentative plan to make up days lost to Hurricane Irma.

The school board will vote Tuesday on the proposal to add five and a half days, the school district said on Facebook.

The proposal would make the following changes to the district’s calendar:

  • Scheduled days off on Oct. 16 and 17 would become school days.
  • An off day on Nov. 10 tentatively scheduled as a hurricane makeup day would become a school day.
  • An early dismissal day Dec. 20 would become a full school day.
  • A scheduled off day for Presidents Day on Feb. 19 would become a school day.
  • A teacher planning day on March 9 would become a school day with students in class.

Florida is allowing school districts to waive two missed days without making them up, no questions asked. Districts can apply to waive additional missed days.

Lee County would make up six days in the proposal it plans to vote on Oct. 3.
