A Clewiston woman was arrested after police say she stole cash from a woman whose home she cleaned.
Jenny McClendon, 55, faces a charge of grand theft following her Aug. 1 arrest.
Clewiston police said the victim told them she withdrew $1,000 in a “very specific format” as part of her hurricane preparations. She said she noticed that whenever McClendon came to her home to clean, something would go missing. On this particular occasion, the victim said she saw her purse in McClendon’s hand.
McClendon told officers she had stolen the money to pay off a drug debt.
Police said they also issued her a trespass warning during her Aug. 1 arrest. Jail records show McClendon was released Aug. 5 on a $3,500 bond.
