At a time when outside stressors are impacting all of our kids, the Lee County School District wants to make sure every child knows there’s an adult there who cares about them.

The pandemic has changed school is many ways. A major change has been to that one-on-one experience with classmates and teachers. The Lee County School District will hold a workshop to close the gap Monday.

Staff will present ideas for their 2030 strategic plan, the Student Services Supports.
The School District wants to focus on key things: support, an ambassador and mentoring program, check and connect and Wellness Wednesday.

In these topics they will discuss:

  • Counseling for mental health, social work, alternatives to suspension and positive behavior intervention.
  • Developing a better system to encourage school attendance.
  • Q-interactive being used to assess student psychoeducation evaluation—this can help the district better identify problem areas in students, increase instructional time and decrease staff time spent of assessing a student.
  • The ambassador mentor program to increase support for students who have been impacted by homelessness or are in foster care. These mentors will be a friend, help bolster self-esteem and help improve social skills.

The Lee School District’s mental health plan will be studied and slowly rolled out by the summer of 2021, and the initiative will be discussed Monday morning.
