A Collier County man is accused of stealing checks from his former employer and cashing one for thousands of dollars.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office says Alexander John Arnold, 21, was fired in late January from Ryan’s Marine Services Company after two months due to poor job performance. After Arnold was let go, the victim – Arnold’s employer – noticed two checks were missing from the glove box of his truck.

The victim reviewed his checking account online and saw that one of the checks, written for $2,000, was made out to Arnold, with a forged signature, and cashed. Surveillance footage from the bank showed Arnold cashing the check.

The second check was not used, the victim told deputies. The report contains a redacted text conversation between Arnold and the victim.

The victim was able to get in touch with Arnold’s mother, who found the blank check, an iPad and $2,000 in a bag in her son’s bedroom. She agreed to meet with the victim to return the items, and a Collier County deputy responded to document the return.

Arnold was arrested and is facing charges of uttering a forged instrument, grand theft and fraudulent use of an ID.

He has since been released from the Collier County Jail.
